The Dagar family has represented the tradition of Dhrupad singing for 20 generations, and continues with Ustad F. Wasifuddin Dagar. Dhrupad singing is the oldest style within classical Hindustani music. Under the influence of Zia Mohiuddin (1929-1990), the rudra vina was included as a solo instrument.
